Swings & Smiles has a fantastic and experienced team who are here to ensure that when you visit us you have a brilliant time. Once you have been welcomed by someone from the team, the play leaders have some great activities planned for you. The play leaders are trained to help you use our equipment and are also on hand to provide support, however it is needed, so that the whole family can enjoy playing at Swings & Smiles. We are really looking forward to meeting you.
Meet The Team
Laura has worked for over 10 years supporting families and children in the Newbury area and has set up many services where playing as a family together is the priority. As the director of Swings & Smiles, Laura is passionate that all children and families who walk through the doors have a fun and fulfilling experience in a warm and welcoming environment. Laura has 4 children and in her spare time goes running and then eats biscuits. When at work she can be found relaxing in the Sensory Room.
Having previously worked at Swings & Smiles as a Play Leader and in other settings with children with special needs, Lucille brings this experience to her new role as Centre Coordinator. Lucille loves that her varied job keeps her busy, but she really enjoys it when she's able to escape the office to play with families and chat with parents. When she's not at work Lucille likes to sleep, watch Love Island or do something creative. At work if she's not at her desk you'll probably find her outside talking to the Guinea Pigs.
Helen really enjoys meeting the many lovely children and families who come and play. She is the lead for our outreach service at Swings & Smiles so is often out and about in the van. She also supports at play sessions during the week and plans and runs our Cooking Clubs twice a week. She loves a good foam fight and is great at drawing kangaroos. Helen is a keen chocolate eater, loves the film The Goonies and has done a sky dive in New Zealand. If you're looking for Helen you might find her out in the garden picking apples.
Kellie leads on our groups for children under 5 and currently runs two mini groups a week, including a sensory session. She also helps to plan and attend our outreach sessions as far as Guildford and is in charge of our party bookings at the centre. She's very knowledgeable about the Guinea Pigs and loves a good project to get stuck into. Kellie has two daughters who keep her very busy but she still makes time for chocolate, dancing and her friends. If you ever lose Kellie you are most likely to find her at the top of the slide.
Business Development Worker
Jo supports Swings & Smiles with fundraising, events and the never-ending task of keeping the centre maintained. She has worked with other charities in similar roles and has a degree in Biological Imaging. In her spare time Jo loves to head to the skate park with her boys and rock out to Justin Bieber. When not working very hard Jo is most likely to be found snoozing in the ball pit.
Adele has worked for many years in various care settings, including supporting adults with learning disabilities to live in the community. Adele works at play sessions in the week and on weekends including Cooking Club twice a week. She's great at planning fun sensory and cooking activities. Outside of work Adele enjoys trips to the gym, spending time with her family and walking her bouncy dog. If Adele goes missing whilst at work check out the SIBS Den as she loves a game of Minecraft on the Xbox.
Natasha works at our weekend play sessions and loves to get involved with the fun activities that go on at the centre. Natasha started with us as a dedicated volunteer and even won an award for the hard work she has put in for Swings & Smiles and other organisations. She loves running and photography. If you are looking for Natasha she may well be hiding as she loves a game of Hide and Seek.
Sara is our dedicated SIBS worker and runs two sessions at the centre a month for children with siblings who have special needs. She also runs a SIBS course in schools and when she's really lucky she gets to take the SIBS out on trips! She has two children and when she's not at work she's spending time with her family and their dog. At the centre you'll most likely find her in the SIBS den challenging Adele on the Xbox.
